Classic Children's Books

NPR has been doing a lot of good stories about books this summer. Their latest profiles classic children's books such as Norton Juster's The Phantom Tollbooth, Jean Webster's Daddy Long-Legs and The House with a Clock in Its Walls by John Bellairs, illustrated by one of my favorite artists, Edward Gorey.
Take a look at the link. Then let us know what your favorite classic children's books are. I'm going with Uncle Wiggily.

  1. Half Magic by Edward Eager. I'm very grateful that they haven't made a movie out of it yet. I used to hope someone would, but now I think it will just spoil the book for future generations. Does anyone read Mary Poppins (another one of my favorites) any more?

  2. From that list definitely The Witches by Roald Dahl...I couldn't pick a favorite classic there are too many, but I read all of Roald Dahl and Madeleine L'Engle...and of course Dr. Seuss
